About event:

We invite you to join the 2nd seminar of the KSE Laboratory for the Study of Religion: "The Ukrainian Orthodox Church Between War, Moscow, and the Need for Change."
The Russian invasion has significantly changed the religious landscape of Ukraine. The Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC), once the largest Christian denomination in the country, has found itself at the epicentre of public condemnation and facing a total ban due to its ties to the Russian Orthodox Church.
During the seminar, we will explore how UOC believers and clergy perceive and explain this societal rejection. Based on qualitative interviews conducted with UOC parishioners and clergy in 2024 with the support of the Zentrum für Osteuropa- und internationale Studien, we will analyze internal sentiments within church communities and assess their readiness for changes necessary to restore public trust.
The seminar will also feature a presentation of the report published in late 2024:"War and Religion: Views from Within Ukraine’s ‘Russian’ Church" - War and Religion: Views from Within Ukraine’s ‘Russian’ Church.
