About event:
Kyiv School of Economics invites you to join the open lecture: "Historical Sociology of the Developmental State: Between Modernity and Conflicts".
On the one hand, the lecture will trace the evolution of the concept of the developmental state — from the classical ideas of Max Weber to the contemporary approaches of Charles Tilly and Peter Evans.
On the other hand, it will examine real-world examples of how such states function globally — navigating between aspirations for modernization and the challenges posed by conflict, particularly in times of war.
The central question is: how can we distinguish the ideal of an effective, progress-oriented state from the harsh realities faced by societies today?
