Physics Seminar: After Equilibration
What happens to a system once it has already reached equilibrium? The question starts with black holes: their interior is expected to keep equilibrating long after the system as a whole has settled, a state governed by its surface. Duality points us to the matching quantum system, where the natural question becomes what happens at those long, post-equilibration times. Jorge Kurchan, with Xianyu Cao, proposes that large deviation theory answers it.
