We cordially invite you to attend the KSE Mathematics Seminar on the topic “Differential equations, arithmetic and mirror symmetry”

We cordially invite you to attend the KSE Mathematics Seminar on the topic “Differential equations, arithmetic and mirror symmetry”

Speaker: Mariia Vlasenko (Chair of the Department of Mathematics at KSE)

When: January 14, 16:30-17:30

Where: KSE Dragon Capital Building, 3 M. Shpaka St., Room 4.07

Abstract:

Differential equations arising in algebraic geometry have surprising arithmetic properties. We will show examples, discuss the nature of these phenomena and demonstrate their appearance in string theory in physics.

About the Speaker:

Masha Vlasenko is an associate professor and the Chair of the Department of Mathematics at KSE.

She specializes in algebraic number theory, with particular focus on periods, automorphic forms, and p-adic methods. Her work has connections to mathematical physics.

Masha earned her PhD in Mathematics from the Institute of Mathematics, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, in 2005.

She held postdoctoral positions at the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in Bonn (2005-2006, 2008-2011) and the Institut des Hautes Études Scientifiques near Paris (2007-2008).

Masha was a lecturer at Trinity College Dublin (2011-2013) and University College Dublin (2013-2015), and a researcher at the Institute of Mathematics of the Polish Academy of Sciences (2015-2025).

She obtained her habilitation in 2020. In 2022, together with a group of mathematicians of Ukrainian origin, Masha founded the International Centre for Mathematics in Ukraine (ICMU) and currently serves as its Managing Director.

Please feel free to share this announcement with your colleagues who may be interested. Looking forward to seeing you there!
